Stay Committed to Your Goals and Chose a Mantra
Sep 25, 2023
Recently my friend, Tamara developed, launched and hosted THE most inspirational, nurturing, supportive, positive, fun event ever! ~ The Plunge! It was a beautiful, sunny (sunrise!) morning on a beach in Beverly, Massachusetts. We all gathered in our swimsuits to take the "plunge" of speaking, committing and leading into our goals AND letting go of things that don't serve us. She believes, loves and lives the Mantra of "Today" ~ so it's fitting that her brand and company is called Today With Tamara. She encourages (& inspires!) others to "do it today". And you know, I'm all for that ~ I echo the same "today" mantra ~ that we have talked about here with messages on the When I Syndrome and Doors Open To Those Bold and Brave to Knock, ohhhh . . . and Why and How To Be Persistent (Because I think you need to set your goals, be action-driven and be persistent!)
In Tamara's last email she talked about staying committed to your goals, have your own mantra and actions steps to get you there! I asked her permission if I could share her Newsletter in it's entirety here on the Blog. (and also share photos of the Plunge! Beautiful images are by Photographer, Merissa Conley of Illume.)
HOW TO STAY COMMITTED TO YOUR GOALS

In a world filled with endless distractions and constant change, staying committed to our goals and aspirations ~ honestly to ANYTHING ~ can be super challenging. However, we believe a powerful tool lies within each of us ~ a mantra that fuels our commitment, boosts our confidence, and propels us towards success. Our Confidence-Building Mantra:
Love you. Gotta go. Bye.
Meaning, I love you so much, and we could talk about this all day, but I have to go and do it!
Let's explore how this mantra can help you stay committed to your journey:
1. Take Action: Commitment begins with action. When you take action, you're not merely dreaming or planning ~ you're already working toward your goals! This mantra reminds us that even small steps can lead to significant progress. Every action you take brings you closer to your desired outcome.
2. Embrace Change: Change is inevitable, and sometimes it can be daunting. However, true commitment means adapting and evolving with the shifting landscape. By embracing change, you open yourself to new opportunities and experiences. Change becomes a friend rather than a foe on your journey.
3. Believe in You: Self-confidence is the cornerstone of commitment. Believing in yourself makes you more likely to persevere through challenges and setbacks. Our mantra reminds you that your inner strength and abilities are your greatest assets. Trust in your potential and capabilities.
Putting Our Mantra into Practice:
Goal Setting: Use your mantra as a guide when setting your goals. Be specific about the actions you need to take, be open to adapting as circumstances change, and always trust in your capabilities. This is where boundaries come into play.
Accountability: Share your mantra with a trusted friend, mentor, or our community (honestly, talk about it all the time, and it'll become more comfortable). Accountability partners can help you stay committed and provide valuable support.
Celebrate Success: Recognize and celebrate each milestone you reach. Acknowledging your progress reinforces your commitment and boosts your confidence. Be good to yourself! Order the sushi!
Support and Encouragement: Lean on our community for support and encouragement. We're here to help you stay committed and keep moving forward. TELL YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY WHAT YOU NEED.
After reading the above, you should start staying committed. One immediate action you can take right now is to identify and write down your specific goals.
- List your goals: What goals do you want to commit to? They can be related to personal development, career, health, or any other area of your life. Write from the HEART, and don't be realistic! Just be honest with yourself. Otherwise, you're doing it for some other reason, and that's not your goal.
- Make the goals specific: Ensure that each one is clear and detailed. Instead of a vague one like "Get in shape," specify, "Lose 10 pounds in the next three months by exercising three times a week." Keep drilling down until you get SO GRANULAR. Then it becomes so obvious what you want.
- Break them down: Divide larger goals into smaller, manageable steps or milestones, making the steps to achieving them more achievable and less overwhelming. Again, keep drilling until you see the first thing you need to do, and it's like a no-brainer that you can get started.
- Set deadlines: Assign deadlines to each goal and milestone. A timeframe creates a sense of urgency and helps you stay on track. Look at the calendar. The season. The school year. Quarterly. What’s your timeline based on?
- Keep your goals visible: Post your list of goals and milestones somewhere you can see them daily. This constant reminder will reinforce commitment. I keep mine on my Notes, which synch to my iPhone and laptop. That way, I can't hide from them; they constantly remind me of what I want, even if it's subliminally.
By clarifying your goals and creating a plan, you're committing to your aspirations and setting yourself up for success. Once you have your goals outlined, refer to them regularly and use them as a compass to guide your actions and decisions toward your commitment.
