Photo and Prop Styling Trends and Sources
Mar 09, 2024
Happy Weekend! What we are loving lately! On the weekend we take a break from the biz talk and share what we’ve been lovin’ lately with 5 Links. A littl’ biz, style, products, style events ~ all the fun stuff! So, we're doing a Round' up Link Love!
(1) VOGUE COVER
Ooooh, THIS cover! Came across this image from Vogue’s Digital Cover this week with Angelina Jolies’ launch of her Atelier Jolie in my style "sourcing travels". Love, Love this juxtaposition of beautiful gown with spray paint brick wall city feel and vibe.

(2) ARIELLA CHEZAR FLORAL BOOK
Announcement of Ariella Chezar’s new book came in my email this week! It’s "Home in Bloom: Lessons for Creating Floral Beauty in Every Room". I have Ariella’s books and I attended her workshop at her Zonneveld Farm in upstate New York. Zonneveld translates to "Sunny Field" and is Ariella’s mothers maiden name- all flowers and produce grown on the farm is sustainable grown.
As we chat about here on the blog, I’m a believer in always evolving, honing and adding to our styling skills. Ariella's workshop did just that! It was great. It was a small group (6 people) so we were able to receive lots of 1:1 time with Ariella. That class was with pink peonies and they were beautiful! I style both home and food ~ which both require some floral or plant styling. I have chatted about some of the inspiration (including Ariella) and tips about how a photo stylist can style with florals and how to get a wholesale floral account for your business. (even if you only use florals/plants on occasion, totally worth it to get wholesale account!)

(3) CHERRY BOMBE!
If you are a food stylist, (or just love food!) THIS is a great source! Went to their website this week to check out dates of their Jubilee event in NYC. (It’s April 20, 2024)
Cherry Bombe has many events, a membership, magazine, a podcast (she’s my cherry pie! ) Great source for reference and also to connect with others! As with everything we do as stylists ~ we keep up with the latest and the trends. They talk about “the future of food”. Aways great to be ahead of the “curve”/trend as a Stylist.
(4) HAPPY GLASSES
Ok, so these are the most cheerly, colorful fun glasses ever. I don’t often style with plastic ~ but I do love these. I would use these for beverages, desserts, and would even use the goblets as a small vessel/vase for a few florals in the bathroom or bed side table when styling interiors.
(5) SPRING COOKING / BAKING CLASS
Want to hone and perfect your styling skills? Look for classes and events. William Sonoma baking class using Le Creuset? (It's part of the March cooking series) I’m in! Williams Sonoma always have great in-store events! Most are FREE. So, it’s a great opportunity to learn new skills. I have taken many just to hone my skills and learn new tips. Some classes have a fee that includes a product. I took a Knife Skills Class that included knives and it was a GREAT addition to my food styling kit. So, I went away with new knife skills to improve my food prep for photo styling and new tools for my kit. (knives)
I’m going to Berry Crumble event tomorrow! I'm all about the events, workshops, seminars ~ all of it. If you are too, check out our Conferences Guide in our Resource Library, (Includes direct links and is updated regularly.) If you are networking and planning on connecting at conferences, we have a companion guide, Photo Stylists Guide to Networking.
Sidenote: I have approached and taught classes at Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, West Elm. As a stylist, you have skills that others want to learn in the home and food (& fashion!) market. Don’t be fearful to approach your local stores to see if you can guest host a workshop in their store. They love the business a Stylist/Guest Host can bring! Oftentimes, they advertise that you are coming. This goes along with what we chat about here on the Blog and developing income streams from our styling talent. Go for it!
